Bavarian Apple Torte

Directions:
Base: Cream butter. Add 1/4 c sugar, blend. Add flour and 1 t vanilla. Mix until crumbled, pat evenly along bottom of springform pan.

Filling: Cream cream cheese. Add 1/4 c sugar, egg and remaining t of vanilla. Mix until smooth, spread evenly over base in pan.

Topping: Mix together sliced apples, 1/3 c sugar and 1 t cinnamon. Spread evenly over filling. sprinkle with slivered almonds if desired.

Bake for 15 minutes at 425. Reduce heat to 375 and bake for 25 more minutes.

This is a go-to recipe for me. It's pretty and it's always really good. If you use the wrong kind of apple the cheesecake layer can become grainy, so make sure to use a good baking apple if you want to use something other than McIntosh. The McIntosh always turn out just perfect.
