Grilled Tri-Tip with Homemade Spice Rub


In a small bowl, combine the first eight ingredients to make the rub. Mix well until blended. Place the roast on a cutting board, brush it with olive oil, and rub the entire surface of the roast with the spice mixture. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least one hour or up to 24 hours.

Prepare a medium hot fire in a charcoal grill or preheat a gas grill to medium–high. Place the roast on the center of the grill, cover, and cook, turning once after 15 minutes, for a total of 30 minutes until medium rare. Remove from the grill and allow to rest 15 minutes before carving.
